The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is committed to ensuring a seamless experience for students who transfer between Nevada’s public institutions of higher education. Easy transfer within NSHE is our goal.

Transfer Agreements

Transfer agreements between NSHE institutions have been created to enable students to complete an associate degree and transfer that coursework into a bachelor’s program with minimal loss of credit. For every bachelor’s program offered at the state college or universities, there are transfer agreements for the corresponding associate program.

Steps to a Successful Transfer

  1. Transfer Advising. Students should obtain transfer advising from the new institution at least one year prior to transferring. Below are links to transfer advising information:
  2. Transfer Agreement. Transfer agreements should be followed as soon as the student has decided to transfer to a bachelor’s program to ensure proper course selection and program alignment and avoid enrollment in unnecessary courses.
  3. Application. Follow the institution’s instructions on how to apply for admission.
  4. Transcript. Request official transcripts from all colleges (NSHE and non-NSHE) previously attended to be sent to the receiving institutions.
  5. Evaluation. Transcripts will be reviewed to determine how courses will transfer. Courses taken at another NSHE institution that share a common course number will automatically transfer, though they may fulfill different requirements than those at the original institution.
    • NSHE courses not having a common course number will be evaluated individually to see if they will fulfill a major or general education requirement, or accepted as an elective.
    • Courses completed at non-NSHE institutions will be evaluated to determine if they are transferable and how they apply to a degree program.

Reverse Transfer

This is a path to degree completion where a student begins at a community college (two-year institution) and moves on to a university (four-year institution) within NSHE before completing an associate degree. That student may then take courses at the university that fulfill the requirements for the associate degree and then transfer those courses back to the community college to receive the associate degree.
